Our History

Eldorado Recording Studios was originally established in 1954 at the corner of Hollywood and Vine as a workshop for Johnny Otis. In those days, hits like Johnny Otis's "Willie and the Hand Jive" and others were crafted using equipment that has now become legendary among producers and engineers for its sound. We still have most of the original equipment lot from the 50's and 60's and most of it has aged like fine wine as it has been carefully maintained and moved from location to location over the past 55 years.

The first such move occurred in 1987 when the studio was forced to relocate due to damage the building sustained from numerous earthquakes. Marvin Gaye's former studio on Sunset Boulevard was chosen as the new location and Eldorado participated in the making of many successful albums during this period (1989 to 1996). The second such move occurred in 1996 when Eldorado moved to it's current location in Burbank ... designed and built from the ground up by Steven Klein.

We are very proud of Steven's work as it has garnered the attention of many artists, producers and engineers over the years. We are particularly proud of our live room as it has consistently proven itself as a World Class Drum Room. Infact, you may have used it without ever stepping foot into Eldorado ... the core drum library for FXpansion's Premium Acoustic Drum Module "BFD" was recorded here years ago.

Over the years, we are proud to have participated in the recording of many classic records from artist's such as Brian Eno, Talking Heads, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Herbie Hancock, Janes Addiction, Social Distortion, Alice In Chains, MXPX, and The Offspring’s “Americana”, certified at twenty million records sold worldwide.  Most recently Eldorado is proud to have hosted new projects from Ben Harper & the Relentless 7, A Fine Frenzy, Against Me, Head Automatica, Avenged Sevenfold, My Chemical Romance (The Black Parade), WAR's Lonnie Jordan, Jewel, Ryan Cabrera, Tricky, Marc Broussard, the soundtrack and movie score for the film "Rent" being both recorded and mixed at Eldorado, and of course a wide variety of cool independent projects.

Eldorado is a full service studio primarily dedicated to the production and recording of a wide range of artists and clients. Having served as “home base” to producer Dave Jerden from 1981 to 2004, Eldorado now caters to a variety of top notch producers, engineers and artists. Butch Vig, Rob Cavallo, Ben Harper, Marshall Altman, Jason Lader, Lukas Burton, Don Gehman, Joe Zook, Jeff Trott, Brian Scheuble, Doug McKean, Don Murray, Jeff Saltzman, and Toby Wright to name but a few.
